Her Majesty’s Theatre Redevelopment Project

Adelaide, South Australia

Constructed in 1913, Her Majesty’s Theatre is Adelaide’s oldest continually operating performance venue and holds a place of cultural and historic significance within the city. COX have been engaged to modernize the theatre to better accommodate contemporary expectations, whilst maintaining its historical integrity.

Following extensive consultation with government, artists and community, a brief was drawn up that includes increasing capacity from 970 to 1500 seats; the design of a new entrance; improving stage and back-of-house capabilities; improving the front-of-house experience for patrons; better integration with the surrounding arts precinct; ensuring Universal Access throughout the venue.

The project is under construction and due for completion this year.
