Bob has worked at COX since 2001, and is a highly experienced architect, academic and committee member. In 2017, Bob was made a Fellow of the practice – recognising his significant contribution to the company and allowing him to continue his focus on planning sectors – amongst additional tasks.
Bob is responsible for a range of major urban and regional studies and development proposals in Australia and overseas. This includes key projects such as Gosford Challenge, Sydney West Metro and Sydney CBD Metro.
Prior to COX, Bob had 20 years’ experience with the NSW Department of Planning and its predecessors. He was the Planning and Development Director of the Macarthur Development Board, responsible for a new city of 500,000 people. He was also the Head of the Policy Brand, where he was responsible for the Urban Development Program and 1988 Metropolitan Strategy.
In 2003, he was the recipient of the Sidney Luker Memorial Medal, awarded biannually for contributions to the science and practice of town and regional planning. He gave the Sidney Luker Memorial Lecture, ‘Fifty Years of Sydney’s Planning’ in 2005.
In 2006, he was made a Life Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia and in 2013 was award a Doctor of Letters by the University of New South Wales’ Faculty of the Built Environment.
Bob was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2014 in the Queen’s Birthday Honours ‘for significant service to architecture and urban planning particularly through the development of infrastructure in Sydney, and to professional associations.’
