Joe Agius has been a Director of COX since 2006 and is part of the practice’s national executive group, guiding strategy and design direction.
He has worked across some of COX’s most awarded projects, including the Sir John Monash Centre, Rouse Hill Northern Precinct, the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre for Wollongong University and the Australian Film Television and Radio School at Moore Park.
‘Public life’ is central to Joe’s design and philosophical approach – ‘any building must give more than it takes.’ This ethos has played out in projects for both the Sydney and Beijing Olympic Games, in public projects across every major Australian city, and master plans for major Australian universities.
He is a past NSW Chapter President of the Australian Institute of Architects, where his focus was improving the AIA’s public and government advocacy. He has been editorial chair of the Architecture Bulletin, a publication to which he is still a regular contributor, and is an occasional design juror at Sydney’s architecture schools. He currently sits on the Dean’s advisory board for both UTS and Canberra University.
