Celebrating New Elevations in Our Melbourne Studio

Warmest congratulations to our newly elevated associates based in Melbourne. These leadership appointments recognise individual contributions to COX’s clients, projects, studio culture and future direction.

Meet our newest associates following.

Working on major projects across transport, infrastructure and education, she has extensive experience with local and state government. Recent projects include Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach Stations and Eureka Stadium Athletics Track, Ballarat.

Margot Lapalus

Aligned with a lifetime passion for photography, fashion and art, Margot was naturally drawn to interior design. Her work balances the functional and the beautiful, seeking to create interiors that people love to be in.

Joining COX in 2017, Margot works across all scales and typologies. With a recent focus on workplace design, projects include 555 Collins Street and 150 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne. She is particularly drawn to projects that make a public contribution and enhance the interface of humans and built space.

Mark Kowalyov

Joining COX in 2016, Mark has worked on a raft of typologies and scales from boutique projects to master plans and urban precincts. He specialises in the field of sports and entertainment, and has international experience across Australia, Finland, Thailand, India and Japan. Recent projects include Allianz Stadium, Sydney and Kobe Arena in Japan.

Mark’s quick iterative crafting of viewing and spatial qualities is integral to creating enhanced sport and entertainment experiences. Enthusiastic about the future of design, he regularly engages with universities through architectural studios and is recognised for his expertise in design technology and digital environments.

Nicholas van Lierop

Bringing a decade of interior design experience, Nicholas has had extensive exposure across various sectors including workplace, hospitality, living and retail.

He has studied in both Australia and Germany, formative learning that has shaped his design ethos. Nicholas specialises in design research and a deep understanding of client requirements, ensuring that proposed solutions achieve the best result possible for everyone involved.

Nicholas works to bring a personalised approach to each client, with recent projects including the multi residential Sapphire by the Gardens and 1000 apartment development, Victoria & Vine in Collingwood.

Rachael Halstead

Passionate about contributing to the built environment in sustainable, thoughtful and human centred ways, Rachael designs places and spaces that are reflective of the communities they serve and that respond to their current and future needs.

Having worked across a range of education, commercial, residential and community projects – a breadth of scales that contribute to key public spaces – recent work includes the redevelopment of Hobart Airport.

A committed tutor and mentor of the next generation of architects, Rachael has both studied and worked in the education space, evolving typologies around agency and project-based learning.
