Coast to Coast: Philip Cox and Rodney Moss at the COX Gallery
COX Fellow and artist, Rodney Moss
One does not think and then draw, one draws to think
A visit to Kingston’s foreshore can transport you from the Pilbara in Western Australia to the South Coast of NSW thanks to a new COX Gallery exhibition – Coast to Coast.
Coast to Coast, which opens Friday 15 November, illustrates the diversity of the Australian landscape. The exhibition features paintings from Philip Cox AO, founder of COX Architecture, and Rodney Moss, Fellow of COX Architecture.
Philip and Rodney see painting as part of the creative endeavour of the practice of architecture. They view painting as they view the design of a building – an emotional response to the environment with an emphasis on the spontaneity of the creative act.
The exhibition coincides with centenary celebrations of influential design school the Bauhaus, so in the spirit of Walter Gropius, Philip and Rodney extend their design philosophy to ‘embrace architecture and sculpture and painting in one unity.’ (Walter Gropius, 1919)
When: Rodney and Philip’s show runs 15 Nov – 13 Dec, opening 5.30pm on Friday 15 Nov.
