Leichhardt Oval Master Plan
Lilyfield, Sydney, New South Wales

Leichhardt Oval, affectionately known by locals as the Eighth Wonder of the World, is a beating heart for the community it serves – woven into memories, rituals and the area’s cultural identity. Our project honours that legacy while reimagining what this beloved place can be for generations to come.

Leichhardt Oval is located between Mary and Glover Streets in parklands above the Parramatta River at Lilyfield.
Our master plan establishes a cohesive vision for planned upgrades and renovations. It ensures this iconic oval not only continues to serve its community, while evolving to meet the expectations of a modern sports and events venue.
An extensive engagement process ensured the plan was informed by rich insights from key audiences. This process included one-on-one interviews with interest groups, pop-up sessions with the community, online surveys and interactive mapping.

The master plan is designed to establish a clear framework for future uses of Leichhardt Oval and associated capital works.
It outlines the modernisation of the Oval’s amenities such as wheelchair access, toilets, food outlets and screens, and details potential upgrades to the western grandstand, including improved player facilities, seating and enhanced corporate offerings.

As a result of the masterplan, in June 2024, the Commonwealth, State and Local Governments formed a funding partnership to secure the future of Leichhardt Oval. The Commonwealth committing $20 million to the project, with the NSW Government and the Inner West Council investing $10 million each towards the upgrade. Following the commitment to the upgrade of Leichhardt Oval, the Eighth Wonder of the World, we will continue to contribute to its future through concept design and construction phases.
