Megan Cope Announced as this Year’s Institute of Modern Art Gala Honouree

COX would like to congratulate Artist Megan Cope for being announced as this year’s Institute of Modern Art Gala Honouree.

Megan is a Quandamooka Woman from Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) in Southeast Queensland, whose work consists of striking site-specific sculptures, paintings, and videos that explore issues relating to place, identity, colonial histories, and the environment.

COX were fortunate enough to work with Megan on James Cook University’s Central Plaza, where her two-dimensional work is overlayed on the plaza’s three-dimensional canopy soffit. The featured piece, titled After the Flood, is part of Cope’s flooded landscape series that illustrates how environment, identity, geomorphology, and mapping are interwoven over time. Using old military maps of the Townsville coastline, After the flood explores potential sea level rises over time and their connection to climate change.
