With over 30 years of industry experience and more than two decades in COX’s Queensland Studio, Richard has been part of many of the practice’s major projects across Australia and beyond. His extensive portfolio spans a range of building types including sports, education, health, cultural, community and transport.
Richard has led numerous major public projects in partnership with institutional clients and Queensland’s state and local governments. His notable Queensland projects include the JCU Central Plaza, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, the Cairns Convention Centre Expansion, and the Cairns Performing Arts Centre. Most recently, he led the design of Brisbane’s Kangaroo Point and Breakfast Creek Green Bridges, each project prioritising patron experience while demonstrating a deep respect for climate, context, and community.
Known for his ability to transform complex project briefs into strategic, insightful designs, Richard brings exceptional conceptual clarity to each project he leads. He is a recognised sustainability advocate and leads COX Queensland’s sustainability group, playing a key role in delivering six-star Green Star projects across Australia.
As part of his industry involvement, Richard serves on the Queensland Urban Design and Places Panel and is leading COX’s design response for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics. True to his craft, he continues to explore design possibilities through hand drawing—a timeless approach that remains central to his creative process.
