The official sod-turning ceremony on 16th September marked the beginning of the much-anticipated $54 million Stage 1 redevelopment of Browne Park, signalling the next chapter for Central Queensland’s historic Rugby League venue.

With over 130 years of Rugby League tradition, this redevelopment will elevate Rockhampton’s Browne Park into a premier facility, addressing the evolving needs of the region by transforming the stadium into both a sporting hub and a valuable community asset.

The removal of the 750-seat Jack Crow Stand has paved the way for a new, one-tier grandstand featuring 3,500 seats, change rooms, food and beverage outlets, broadcast, coaching and corporate facilities, and administration space.

Once completed, Browne Park will become a state-of-the-art venue, enhancing the fan experience, and creating an exciting atmosphere for both players and spectators.

COX, in collaboration with local partner Design+Architecture, are leading the design and delivery with construction by Hutchies for the Department of Tourism and Sport (DTIS).

Sport has a rich tradition in Rockhampton and Browne Park has been at the heart of that for over a century. Located on the lands of the Darumbal People, the ground has seen significant contributions from the local Indigenous community to the sport in Rockhampton, including many players who’ve gone on to represent at State and National levels. It has also served as a place where Indigenous and non-Indigenous young people have connected through the shared experience of sport.

Renowned as the home of the Central Queensland Capras, Browne Park’s redevelopment will ensure it becomes a versatile venue supporting year-round activities.

Upon completion of all stages of the master plan, the full ground capacity will double from 5,000 to 10,000 for sporting events with up to 18,000 people able to be accommodated within the space for stage events and concerts.

This expansion positions Browne Park as a regional hub for both culture and community engagement. The venue’s flexibility will support not only sport but also local businesses and economic development, ensuring it remains a vital contributor to the region’s growth beyond game days.

The anticipated completion of Browne Park will be in the first quarter of 2026.
