Taking Off Into the Future – The Newcastle International Airport Terminal Expansion is Underway
The Newcastle Airport International Terminal Expansion project is officially underway, with construction starting on the transformative project this month. Once complete, this project will enhance the airport’s capacity, efficiency, and overall user experience.
In 2022, COX was appointed as the Lead Design Consultant for this strategic upgrade and terminal expansion, including a new premium covered car park. The primary initiative for the design was the need to facilitate wide-bodied aircraft, allowing for direct international flights, particularly into Southeast Asia, offering convenience to travellers who want to fly internationally from Regional NSW.

The design incorporates the sand dunes, our beaches, and the iconic Hunter Valley in the design and colours. We have also worked hard to ensure the terminal is inclusive, making it an accessible space for everyone.
The first look at the design has been unveiled and we are thrilled to share the Newcastle Airport terminal expansion fly-through video.
COX Director, David Holm
The importance of the Airport overall Master Plan has been considered to include passenger approaches, various levels of car parking and a series of ancillary facilities to represent a cohesive design vision for the airport experience.
The first step in the expansion is complete and open, with the new Premium Covered Car Park providing travellers with a first-class parking experience. Fusing function and sustainability, the car park includes electric vehicle charging stations, 1235 solar roof panels and design elements that tie in with the Airport Terminal design. Read more here
We look forward to delivering this critical project for the Newcastle and Hunter Region.
