Together We Go Further: Congratulations in Order After Careertrackers Gala Dinner

What does it mean to have community spirit?

This may be a question for COX Student Designer Matte Ager-McConnell, who took out the Community Spirit Award at this year’s CareerTrackers Gala Dinner.

CareerTrackers note the winner of this award as someone who ‘demonstrates outstanding commitment to the development of their community.’ They also outline the recipient as being an intern who shows leadership in their community and upholds the responsibility of being a role model to future generations.

Matte is currently studying a Master of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney, joining COX as a CareerTrackers intern in June of 2016.

Speaking to Matte after the awards, he said “As a student that has been in the program for a few years I feel a responsibility and desire to give back – as I feel so much has been given to me. It is a privilege to work alongside my fellow CareerTrackers students at COX, they are my role models and my motivation – together we support each other in not only helping to address the under-representation of Indigenous designers in the built environment, but also through general support as  co-workers.”

While I am proud, I must acknowledge there is much more I can do.  I am confident though, that through working at COX I will be supported and provided opportunities to continue to make real change for future generations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers and, as a result, architecture and the built environment.

COX also took out the Corporate Plus Award

At the gala dinner, COX were also awarded the Corporate Plus Award. This award is seen as the highest recognition of a CareerTrackers employment partner. It ls given to an organisation that strives to create best practice in the implementation of the program by working closely-with them to innovate and strive for excellence.

COX Director, Satvir Mand

It is a great honour to have Careertrackers appreciate COX’s contribution to the program. The Directors of COX sincerely believe that it is our privilege to be part of the Careertrackers family and celebrate the opportunity to provide support and influence through these internships.

CareerTrackers is a national non-profit organisation with the goal of creating pathways and support systems for Indigenous young adults to attend and graduate from university, with high marks, industry experience and bright professional futures.
