Mínima Recognised at the 2025 ACT Architecture Awards

Mínima, a culinary gem in Yarralumla designed by COX in collaboration with owners and brothers Mork and Benn Ratanakosol, has been recognised in the Interior Architecture category at the Australian Institute of Architects 2025 ACT Architecture Awards.
Mínima’s design is rooted in the concept of ‘third culture’, merged with the warmth and familiarity of “coming to dinner at our place.” The result is an intimate yet luxurious space—an environment that invites guests to savour a dining experience rich with personal stories and global flavours.

The notion of a ‘third culture’ offered a rich framework that liberated the design from trite, supposedly ‘local narratives’ — allowing it to explore something deeper and more authentic.


Blending seamlessly with the Yarralumla shops, the design embraces minimalism while creating intrigue. The interior, once a massage parlour, is visually disconnected from the outdoor area, building anticipation as guests gather before sittings, fostering social interaction.
Inside, Benn welcomes guests while Mork works behind the open kitchen counter, evoking a homely dining experience. Seating just 22, the space feels intimate, yet successfully balances atmosphere, ambiance and functionality. More than 80% of materials are recycled, and energy-efficient appliances run without gas—a clear commitment to sustainability that also extends to the use of local artists and suppliers.


“COX maximised every millimetre of the 47m² space, addressing challenges and solutions with precision at each stage of the design process. The kitchen size was comparable to residential kitchens, yet we needed to prepare meals for nearly 70 guests daily—an ambitious feat for a compact space.
The interplay of breccia marble against dark oak furniture, green textiles, maroon tiles, creates an atmosphere that inspires contentment. Frosted doors ensure the warmly lit space remains free from harsh glare, perfect for ambiance and photography,” Mínima Client.
