Nugroho is a Jakarta-born Architect and Director of Cox Architecture. Based in the Canberra studio, he brings a global perspective to the practice of architecture. Nugroho currently serves as the ACT Chapter President of the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), where he advocates for design quality, housing delivery, and the integrity of the profession in public and political life.
With a portfolio spanning housing, education, civic, sports, cultural, transport, commercial and hospitality typologies, his projects have been recognised with international, national and local awards. Highly collaborative by nature, he is known for his sustained involvement across all phases of a project — from inception through to post-occupation — ensuring that design intent is carried through and that buildings continue to perform for the communities who use them. Within the studio, his approach has highly influenced the design language of the practice over the past decade.
He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Canberra, where he was awarded the AIA Student Medallion, and continues his connection to the university as a Guest Lecturer in design studio, history and theory, as well as serving on various committees. A published researcher and author, he brings both academic rigour and practice-based insight to the formation of the next generation of architects.
