Contributing to the Public Life of our Cities – 2026 Architecture Awards

Architecture is at its most meaningful when it contributes to the public life of our cities – creating places to gather, connect, heal, learn and belong. The Australian Institute of Architects Awards recognise projects that contribute to the social, cultural and civic fabric of our communities, and the partnerships that make them possible.

Across this year’s recognised projects, juries celebrated architecture that helps people “feel that they belong, and that they matter”; projects that transform “an underloved pocket of suburban Canberra into a place of genuine civic and cultural significance”; and design that demonstrates “the capacity of architecture and design to make a significant contribution to contemporary health care and community wellbeing”. They also acknowledged buildings that respond with sensitivity to place, drawing “the surrounding wetlands, parklands and waterways into the experience of the building”.

We thank the clients, communities, Traditional Owners, consultants, contractors and collaborators whose trust and partnership made these outcomes possible, and congratulate all projects recognised through this year’s awards program.
