Students Tour New Adelaide Botanic High

Ahead of its’ opening for the 2019 school year, the new Adelaide Botanic High School has received the seal of approval from future students and South Australian Premier, Steven Marshall.

“Its location near the Botanic Gardens, East End and oRAH precincts also ensures these students will benefit from engagement with our broader innovation hub, universities and business,” Mr Marshall said.

“My hope is that these students will be challenged and inspired to become the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.”

With a focus on STEM and collaborative learning environments, Cox Architecture have considered the needs of the students and teaching staff in the design process.

Designed in partnership with Design Inc, Adelaide Botanic includes the transformation of the current Reid building and its surrounding site to create a vertical high school complete with flexible learning spaces interconnected via an “active atrium” over five levels.

The internal space is conceived as a continuation of the external landscape and parkland setting, creating vital indoor and outdoor connectivity to enhance the student learning experience.

Director Zoe King said the student tour was a highlight of the design delivery. “To see the children so excited about the school is sensational – it’s the culmination of everything we’ve been working for”.

The Adelaide Botanic High is the first in a line up of vertical education projects currently underway at Cox Architecture. With a strong team of specialists driving educational architectural innovation across the national practice, Cox has cemented its’ place as an industry leader for the future of learning design.
