Designs for reimagined Riverside Theatres unveiled for community feedback

Set to become a centrepiece for performance, storytelling and public life in Western Sydney, the new design for Riverside Theatres is a step closer to reality with the state-significant development now on public exhibition.

The design – by COX Architecture with 3XN Architects, Aileen Sage, Turf Design Studio and Bangawarra – is underscored by a deep connection to place, reflecting a future-facing identity for Parramatta defined by inclusivity, creativity and Country.

Riverside Theatres is a meaningful opportunity to elevate public life through design – a longstanding mission at COX

“In collaboration with our design team, we are shaping a cultural landmark where communities can gather for performances today, while strengthening Parramatta’s cultural identity into the future.”

Riverside Theatres Director, Craig McMaster, said the reimagined Riverside Theatres will offer locals a vibrant hub of creativity and attract major works, productions and opportunities for local talent to thrive.

“The iconic design respects Parramatta’s rich cultural heritage, thoughtfully integrating contemporary architecture with elements that honour the area’s historical significance, creating a harmonious blend of past and present,” said McMaster.

The architecture connects seamlessly to the riverfront, with public terraces, a new bar and café, improved civic access and generous spaces for gathering. Inside, each performance space is distinct — acoustically tuned, flexible and purpose-built for a future-focused cultural program.

The public is invited to engage with the proposal and contribute feedback to help shape the next chapter of Riverside Theatres.
