The Cairns Convention Centre Expansion Named the Eddie Oribin Building of the Year
The expansion of Cairns Convention Centre (CCC) has been named the Eddie Oribin Building of the Year at the 2024 Far North Queensland Regional Architecture Awards.
Designed by COX and CA Architects, the project was described as “a clever response to the place and identity of tropical Far North Queensland” by co-chair of the awards jury Sandy Cavill.
“The CCC reorientates the existing inward focused building towards the Trinity Inlet through a glass facade that provides uninterrupted views of stunning mountainscapes and wet tropical greenery. The region is further acknowledged through ‘sea grass’ carpets, Cape York hardwoods, and botanical colours. The simplicity of the structure demonstrates the integration of disciplines while creating flexible spaces that maximise venue performance.”
