The Inaugural National Biophilic Design Awards

On the 27th April 2023, we were honoured to host the Living Future Institute of Australia’s (LFIA) inaugural National Biophilic Design awards at our Sydney studio, connecting with our peers from across the country.

Established in 2012, The LFIA is an affiliate of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI). ILFI is an environmental NGO committed to creating communities that are socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative. It operates the Living Building Challenge, the built environment’s most ambitious performance standard, as well as many other visionary programs that support the transformation toward a living future.

The awards evening celebrated the work of our fellow practitioners in Australian buildings, interiors and communities, which translates humanity’s biological and emotional connection to nature into the design of our environments. Biophilic design has been proven to offer multiple psychological and physiological benefits, and we believe it is a fundamental step towards the development of harmonious relationships between humans and our natural environments.

COX’s James Cook University Plaza was commended as a finalist in the awards. View our full video submission  below:

Congratulations to the winners in demonstrating this so beautifully through their work, and thank you to the Living Future Institute of Australia for recognising the potential of biophilic design.
