Collingwood’s First Build-to-Rent Precinct Gets Green Light
December saw the Victorian State Government approve planning for a major new Build-to-Rent precinct on the corner of Langridge and Hoddle Streets, Collingwood.
Designed for UEM Sunrise and Greystar, the BTR precinct is set to become a hub for the local community with retail and hospitality offerings, green spaces and vibrant, open public square.

UEM Sunrise CEO, Sufian Abdullah, emphasised the importance of the development to the Melbourne housing market and looks forward to delivering the first BTR project in the inner-city suburb: “We recognise the significance of this project for the Collingwood area and its future local residents, adding critical new housing supply at a time when it is already difficult to secure a home in this market.”
Featuring a collection of stepped-form buildings, each with a unique architectural identity, the materiality and palette are a nod to the industrial past of Collingwood. The design celebrates the grit and diversity that makes this area so dynamic and special.
In June 2023, UEM Sunrise entered into a partnership agreement with global BTR leaders Greystar. UEM Sunrise is the developer and delivery partner for the project, with Greystar as the investor and owner-operator via a fund-through structure. Construction is expected to commence in early to mid-2026.
