Stromlo Forest Anglican College

From humble beginnings in 2015 the COX Canberra Studio has been working with the Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn in our role as Master planners and Architects on a portfolio approach to development opportunities for a range of community-use sites in the ACT/NSW region.

Along with a variety of liturgical, social and community housing typologies, this portfolio has included educational campus master planning and new educational facility design on a range of existing campuses in the ACT and regional NSW.

Located in the new inner Canberra suburb of Molonglo, Stromlo Forest Anglican College (SFAC) develops a new greenfield Kinder to Year 12 independent campus to accommodate 1800 students over the next 10 years.

Significantly it is an opportunity to continue the exploration of the Vertical School pedagogy model previously interpreted by COX via Botanic High School in Adelaide, Inner City North SCC in Brisbane, and Docklands Primary in Melbourne.

The awarding of land by the ACT Government was partly as consequence of our demonstrated deep understanding of the emerging Vertical School typology across a wider contributing national Cox education team. This collective experience is underpinned by latest (and ongoing) research, and a willingness for our national colleagues share best practice for the benefit of SFAC.

The project also has an ambition for zero-carbon operation and will seek Living Future Institute certification.

SFAC will be a community focused College developed over six stages of with the first stage (ELC) opening in 2025. Junior, Senior, College, Gym and supporting infrastructure and grounds will follow.
