All Wrapped Up

As 2019 draws to a close – COX reflect on the year that was.

We are a diverse team, from architects, interior designers and urban designers, to graphic designers, marketing staff, computational designers, admin and more. As a result, some of this year’s feats can be seen dotted along the skylines of Australia’s major capital cities – while others are less imposing, albeit not less important.

It’s often easy to get caught up in the flurry of the festive season. Will I be able to get all my work wrapped up before the Christmas party? Why would someone put a deadline so close to the end of the year? How did I forget to buy my parents presents?!

But, in a statement that is often easier said than done – ‘sit back and relax.’ It’s been a great year, with projects, events and some late nights as evidence.

So, what did happen in 2019?

We celebrated International Women’s Day

The National Maritime Museum had its soft opening

We hosted events as part of National Reconciliation Week

We were winners! Taking home 3 wins and 2 commendations at the Australian Interior Design Awards

We asked our Indigenous interns what this year’s NAIDOC theme meant to them

Prix Versailles voted Optus Stadium the most beautiful stadium in the world

We saw a host of amazing projects from across our studios shortlisted in the National Architecture Awards

Our re-brand went live (and got nominated for an AGDA)

We were excited to find out we had the winning design for the Western Sydney Airport Design Competition – in collaboration with Zaha Hadid Architects

Sails in the Desert solidified itself as a piece of iconic architecture, taking out the enduring architecture award at the Australian Institute of Architects’ National Architecture Awards

The Sustainable Buildings Research Centre added ‘Australia’s most sustainable building’ to its list of accolades, becoming the first Australian building to achieve Living Building accreditation
