Perth Children’s Hospital shortlisted for WAF’s Best Use of Colour Prize

The World Architecture Festival has announced the shortlist for its Best Use of Colour Prize, naming Perth Children’s Hospital as one of the finalists.

Perth Children’s Hospital, completed in collaboration with JCY Architects and Urban Designers and Billard Leece Partnership with HKS Inc., cleverly uses colour and form to create an atmosphere of positivity and hope.

The natural bush-land of the adjacent Kings Park informed the colour palette, referencing springtime wildflowers. Colour and whimsy reduce anxiety for patients and carers, creating a family-friendly environment. Colour also plays an important role in wayfinding.

COX Design Director, Fernando Faugno

We use colour in the hospital to both surprise and distract. For those arriving at night, the illuminated façade and artwork The Fizz instantly identifies the hospital and creates a visual wonderland for everyone driving past.

Perth Children’s Hospital is also shortlisted in the 2019 WAF ‘Completed Buildings: Health’ category. The awards will be judged live in Amsterdam from 4 to 6 December by 148 judges from over 50 countries.
