In approaching the interiors of premium menswear retailer Masons, Cox Architecture looked to the location, wares and future clientele of the store to inform the highly detailed fit-out.
Housed in a heritage listed warehouse on Finders Lane in Melbourne, the store nods to the area’s rag trade history using industrial materials such as dark timber, stone and gunmetal steel.
We conceptualised an open-plan store space for streetwear and casual collections, with visual links leading customers through to a premium room defined by softer acoustics and brighter lighting.
Contrasting flooring such as black stained American Oak, light Italian marble, and thick carpeting map a journey though the store and celebrate each collection. Highly detailed joinery, garment racks and displays partner together to define ‘neighbourhoods’ of wares.
Walnut cabinetry and brass-edged shelving add an element of warmth to the interiors; whilst, velvet and leather furnishings temper the cool palette with their soft tactility, providing space to sit and experience the considered design of the store and its collections.
