International Award Honours for CSL Global Headquarters and New Footscray Hospital
Last week in Singapore, two COX projects were honoured at the 2024 World Architecture Festival and Inside World Festival of Interiors.
CSL Global Headquarters in Melbourne received the Inside Award for Workplace (Large), and the new Footscray Hospital was Highly Commended in the WAF Future Projects – Health category.
Award, Inside Workplace (Large)
Rising 16 levels and spanning 35,000 sqm CSL’s Global Headquarters and Centre for R&D serves as a testament to innovation and contribution to biomedical science. Nine floors of labs and cutting-edge research suites are integrated with seven floors of agile workspace designed to optimise connectivity, amenity and wellbeing.
The facility also features exhibition spaces for external stakeholders and an extensive variety of meeting, collab and breakout areas.
One of the core design strategies, a bold green stair nicknamed the ‘Treewalk’, was observed by the jury as offering “smart spatial connections, and use of central stairs to connect all interior spaces”.
“Connecting the CSL team and visitors from the ground floor lobby, the Treewalk journeys through the laboratory floors and weaves through the workplace, rising all the way to the Level 16 outdoor terrace,” explained COX Director Christina Prodromou.
This is the second award for CSL’s Global HQ, which received a Commendation for Sustainability Advancement earlier this year in the Australian Interior Design Awards.
Highly Commended, WAF Future Projects – Health
Designed by COX and Billard Leece Partnership, the new Footscray Hospital integrates healthcare infrastructure with community-focused needs to shape spaces that redefine the concept of a hospital for future generations.
The design, created in collaboration with Plenary Health and the Victorian Health Building Authority, champions a community-oriented layout with five buildings surrounding a central green space, offering pedestrian-friendly access and public amenities. The project is currently under construction and due for completion in late 2025.
COX Director Paul Curry and BLP Principal Mark Mitchell took to the crit room stage to present the future health project to delegates and the jury.
Congratulations to the project teams, clients and collaborators on this global recognition and a big thank you to WAF and all the jury members.
Well done also to our peers around the world on their own recognition; participating in WAF reminds us how fantastic it is to be part of a global network that champions collaboration, innovation and a vision to make the world a better place through design.
