Shaping the Future: Caulfield To Dandenong Level Crossing Removal celebrated at Victorian Architecture Awards

The Caulfield to Dandenong Level Crossing Removal project took home an award in the Public Architecture category at this year’s Victorian Architecture Awards, setting a ‘precent for the shape of Melbourne’s future public rail system.’

The Caulfield to Dandenong project saw the removal of nine problematic crossings, replacing them with five elevated railway stations, new open space and shared pedestrian and cyclist pathways.

In its citation for the project, the jury said the new stations ‘deliver a series of smart architectural and engineering solutions to bring new local landmarks and activity centres to each suburban station.’

Jury Citation, Victorian Architecture Awards

A very skilful and accomplished project,’ all five stations have ‘a consistent and distinct architectural form providing a sense of identity to the rail corridor and sense of connection between adjoining suburbs.

The rail line-wide design solution was achieved through collaboration between COX and ASPECT Studios with CTD Alliance team. Congratulations also extend to all Construction and Consultant Teams, Lendlease Engineering, CPB Contractors, Aurecon, WSP, Metro Trains Melbourne, PLP Building, Disability & Safety Audits and Multiple Studio.

This project will now progress to the National Architecture Awards to be announced on November 7.
