Sadly, James passed away in July of 2020 after an eighteen-month battle with leukemia. He will be remembered for his technical excellence, his commitment and leadership, his generosity of spirit and his big old laugh. He was a sportsman, a friend, a family man and an exceptional architect. He has left a lasting impression on sports architecture in Australia and will be missed by all.
James is an experienced architect with work spanning sport, public, commercial, educational and residential developments. As project architect, James has taken multiple projects from conceptual stage through to completion – working closely with clients to achieve creative outcomes.
Since joining COX James has specialised in sports architecture as a team leader on the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment, New Perth Stadium and was Project Architect on the WACA Media Centre.
Throughout his career James has built valuable skills in planning, the implementation of the Green Guide in sports stadia and liaising with engineering consultants and builders over various stages. He has actively used Revit and building information modelling (BIM) throughout the course of the Adelaide Oval Redevelopment in conjunction with other practices including ArchiCAD and AutoCAD.
James is enthusiastic and motivated to continue his involvement in public architecture. His appreciation and experience in commercial, cultural and community design makes him an important member of COX’s Melbourne studio.
